Ready, Set, Holiday!

Here they come again…the holidays! Will you be hosting this year? Inviting new friends? Going to someone else’s home? Skipping the hubbub to enjoy a quiet time at home?

Whatever your plans (sometimes they shift last-minute, we know how it goes), we have beautiful items to help you make your holiday merry and bright. Our busy elves have been unpacking French jacquard and toile tablecloths, glassware with bees and fleur de lys, and colorful block-printed table runners and placemats.

Need a hostess gift? Try French perforated taper candles, Limoges boxes, and soaps from Provence.

If you want a BIG wow for your home, come see our selection of rejuvenated vintage furniture, repaired and repainted in French colors to add charm and light to any space.

AkzoNobel’s Aesthetic Center has just published its Colour Futures 2011 guide. The dominant trend they predict is Appreciation, a refreshing concept, non? As they say, “This concept is packed with what we hold most dear and truthful — a home base that is simple and informal and rooted in the here and now.” The color they suggest to represent this trend is what they call Lime Twist, shown as the lower wall color in the photo below.

One might also call this spring green, lemongrass, or a mellow chartreuse. In my opinion it is warmer than pistachio. It’s not exactly wasabi, either, but if you want to call it that, I won’t argue.

I happen to love this color and think it mixes harmoniously with many other colors, such as the grey as shown in the photo. I would also put it with many shades of blue and brown, and think it would really shine with hot shades of pink or orange. Lavender would be a soothing mate.

Here are some products from I Dream of France that feature Lime Twist:

I Dream of France was reviewed by the blog Paint Your Town Red! Paint Your Town Red is dedicated to the promotion of locally owned fashion boutiques and specialty shops, focusing on Southern California (Orange, San Diego, and Riverside counties).  The blog’s editor came to visit us one afternoon and took photos of our shop and product dispays. She especially liked our soap selection and Crazylibellule and the Poppies solid perfume sticks. Such a nice person and what a great idea for a blog! Merci, Paint Your Town Red!

La Lavande French Soap

La Lavande Round Soap

Those of you who visited our store lately must have noticed how good it smells. This is due to the wonderful soaps from La Lavande. The La Lavande soaps are all natural, made with enriching vegetable oils (shea butter, sweet almond, olive & palm oil). They are moisturizing, beautifully scented with a luxurious lather, beneficial for all skin types (especially dry or sensitive skins), and come in various sizes, shapes and scents. Check out heart and egg shaped soaps, as well as round and bar shapes, in scents such as eglantine (wild rose), lavender (with flowers embedded in the soap, or plain), honey, ocean, lemongrass, linden, and verbena. They are hard milled, very long lasting and are made in Provence, France. The best part is the price: all are under $5! If you are in the neighborhood, stop by the store to see (and smell) for yourself. If you plan on placing an order with us online, why not add a bar or two? Enjoy a special treat for not much money.

We are only two weeks into the new year, and we can already announce new lines of products and new products for existing brands for 2010. We just came back from the Atlanta Gift Show, where we happened to see Karen Lee Ballard in person, and found two new lines of table linens.

First is Le Cluny, who cuts and sews Provençal fabric (imported from France) in North Carolina into a wide range of table linens. The majority of our new tablecloths from Le Cluny are acrylic coated.

Second is Couleur Nature, designed by Parisian designer Bruno Lamy and manufactured in India. These are fantastic block printed designs.

We will soon be carrying a new line of French soaps named La Lavande. Despite their name they offer many great scents, not just lavender, in various sizes and exciting shapes; genuine Provence soaps at great prices.

Our Laguiole knives were a big hit last year and we are adding more products, such as a cheese set, to our selection.

Our line of La Rochere glasses will receive a new pattern called “Anduze,” as well as pitchers and carafes in our bee and Fleur de Lys pattern.

We are excited to announce that all the Quimper Faience patterns will now be available this year in the US. That means a huge selection will now be offered. We will be stocking some of their products, but since it is impossible to carry everything, we will take orders for what we don’t currently have. Delivery time for these orders is between four and eight weeks.

The Pantone Color Institute announced this month that their Color of The Year for 2010 is Turquoise (specifically, their color Pantone 15-5519). From their press release, “It is believed to be a protective talisman, a color of deep compassion and healing, and a color of faith and truth, inspired by water and sky. Through years of color word-association studies, we also find that Turquoise represents an escape to many – taking them to a tropical paradise that is pleasant and inviting, even if only a fantasy.”

Here is a selection of I Dream of France products that contain turquoise…
