This season we are stocking a new line of kitchen towels that are made in France by Torchons et Bouchons. Torchons et Bouchons literally means “towels and corks” as the company’s first product line depicted vintage French wine labels. Their towels are 100% cotton, machine washable, and printed with food-safe dyes.

We also received new towels from customer favorites Beauvillé and Coucke. (Is it too early to think about Christmas? Because our shipment included beautiful Christmas towels from Beauvillé…)

Beauvillé towels are block printed by hand on a linen-cotton blend towel (which some customers have told us is their favorite blend for drying dishes). Their designs are uniquely beautiful and top-quality, and they have been printing textiles in the Alsace region of France since 1759. We are amazed every time we receive new Beauvillé tea towels at how beautiful they are. The colors, the artwork, and the quality of the printing are just so splendidly over the top for something so utilitarian as a kitchen towel! Located in Alsace, France, Beauvillé block prints their designs by hand on linen-blend toweling. Opening a new box from Beauvillé feels like Christmas morning. Speaking of which, we received several beautiful Christmas-themed towels in this shipment. Here are some of their designs. Click any of the photos to view them on I Dream of France and read more information about them.

We just received a new shipment of French tea towels and terry towels from Coucke, based in Northeastern France. We got some new patterns, and some fresh stock in popular styles that had sold out over the summer in our store.

Fall is just around the corner, which means Halloween will be here before we know it. Hard to believe, but it seems to come faster every year, doesn’t it? Here’s a Citrouille (Pumpkin) towel to honor the change in seasons!

We also  have a new pattern, Les Cèpes (boletus mushrooms).

And another, Les Lapins (rabbits).  The terry square version of this is so popular that we have added this jacquard version as well.

All of a sudden, we hear people talking about macarons everywhere! Three different shelter magazines mentioned macarons in their September issues. Veranda and Elle Decor announced the opening of a Ladurée patisserie in New York City. Ladurée is a a Paris institution dating from 1862, famously making macarons and other pastries for many years. They are credited with inventing the macaron. Even their pastel boxes and shopping bags are collected by fans.

Better Homes and Gardens magazine lists websites where you can order macarons made by other companies in the United States.

But what is a macaron? It is a sweet confection made of two soft meringue-like cakes sandwiching a frosting filling. Macarons are made in many different flavors, such as strawberry, chocolate, caramel, and pistachio. They are slightly chewy but very light in texture A macaron is nothing like the coconut cookies called “macaroons,” but is like a distant Continental cousin to the American whoopie pie.

On the other hand…Jean-Michel and other residents of the Poitou region (about three hours southwest of Paris) claim to have the real macaron. Recipes dating to the 16th-century Medicis family describe a macaron as a one-piece confection made with ground almonds, sugar, eggs, and salt. If you visit Poitiers, be ready to try the “real” macarons!

Although we sell candies and cookies at I Dream of France, we do not currently offer macarons. We do, however, have beautiful kitchen towels decorated with macarons. Click any of the photos below to view them on our website.
